Trump’s criticism of GOP Senate candidates has Republicans worried ahead of rally – CNN

(CNN)President Donald Trump heads to Georgia on Saturday to campaign for two Republican senators one month ahead of a critical runoff that will determine which party controls the Senate. But Trump’s visit comes as he has spent the last several weeks consumed by his own election loss while attacking party officials in the state, casting doubt on its voting process and questioning one of the lawmakers he’s urging voters to elect. According to two sources, during a recent phone call Trump blasted Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp as a “moron” and “nut job” and asked why Sen. Kelly Loeffler did not secure a majority of votes on Election Day, placing her in a runoff against the Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock. Last December, Trump had lobbied Kemp to fill the ...

Stimulus check update: Pelosi says there is ‘momentum’ toward COVID-19 relief – fox4kc.com

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave an optimistic assessment of the prospects for a mid-sized COVID-19 relief bill and a separate $1.4 trillion government-wide spending bill on Friday, teeing up expectations for a successful burst of legislative action to reverse months of frustration on pandemic relief. Pelosi told reporters that she and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are in sync on a plan to reach agreement on the massive omnibus spending bill and to add COVID-19 relief to it. Pelosi said a bipartisan, middle-of-the-road plan being finalized by a diverse gaggle of senators that she has endorsed as a foundation for the relief bill is a good effort, even though it’s a significant retreat from where Democrats stood before the election. “It’s a good product,” Pelos...

Masks are critical to stopping coronavirus spread, even at home, CDC says – CNN

(CNN)Masks are “critical” to controlling the spread of coronavirus, and that includes at home sometimes, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. A CDC review of what works makes it clear that mask use, physical distancing, avoiding crowds and washing hands all could help control the spread of the virus — and would allow kids to go back to school and businesses to reopen. “Consistent and correct use of face masks is a public health strategy critical to reducing respiratory transmission of SARS-CoV-2, particularly in light of estimates that approximately one half of new infections are transmitted by persons who have no symptoms,” the CDC summary of guidance reads. The CDC has gradually been strengthening its recommendations on mask use. &#...

Her dad [Abraham Quintanilla Jr.] ran some amazing sound when I went to see them at an event in San Antonio.”...

Alaska May Be Hiding a Huge Volcanic System – Gizmodo

Several volcanoes in Alaska’s Islands of the Four Mountains. Image: John Lyons/USGS As if we needed more upsetting right news right now, geologists have reason to suspect that a cluster of Alaskan islands is actually part of an interconnected volcanic system of the same kind seen at Yellowstone National Park. Called the Islands of the Four Mountains (IFM), this volcanic archipelago is located along the Aleutian island chain. New research led by John Power from the U.S. Geological Survey at the Alaska Volcano Observatory presents evidence for “a large, previously unrecognized caldera” in the IFM, in research that will be presented December 7 at the AGU’s Fall Meeting 2020. The cluster consists of six closely spaced stratovolcanoes, named Cleveland, Carlisle, Herbert, Kagamil, Tana, and Ulia...

Friday’s NFL injury and roster news for Week 13 – NFL.com

Chicago has another chance to end its losing streak Sunday, but might have to do so without a key part of its offense. Receiver Allen Robinson (knee) is questionable for the Bears’ Week 13 meeting with the Detroit Lions, per the team’s official injury report. The listing was a surprise, as Robinson hadn’t appeared on the injury report until Friday. In an extremely limited Bears offense, Robinson has still found a way to put together another strong season, catching 71 passes for 829 yards and five scores while also functioning as Chicago’s No. 1 receiver and catching passes from two different quarterbacks. When it comes to performing in a contract year, Robinson is doing himself plenty of favors as he approaches free agency. The rest of Chicago’s offense hasn&#...

House passes marijuana decriminalization bill – CBS News

The House on Friday passed a bill decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level, a sweeping measure that aims to reduce racial inequities in drug arrests. The measure, which would remove marijuana from the list of federally controlled substances and expunge federal convictions for non-violent marijuana offenses, now goes to the Senate, where it is unlikely to pass. The House passed the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act by a vote of 228 to 164, with six Democrats voting against it and five Republicans voting for it. Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida was the only Republican to co-sponsor the bill, which had over 100 Democratic sponsors. “This long overdue legislation would reverse the failed policy of criminalizing marijuana on the federal level and would t...

Biden on Trump administration distributing vaccine: ‘There is no detailed plan’ – CNN

Washington (CNN)President-elect Joe Biden said Friday that the Trump administration had shared information with his transition team about distributing a vaccine to various states, but Biden said his team had not seen a “detailed plan.” “There is no detailed plan that we’ve seen, anyway, as to how you get the vaccine out of a container, into an injection syringe, into somebody’s arm,” Biden said at an event in Wilmington, Delaware. “It’s going to be very difficult for that to be done and it’s a very expensive proposition,” Biden said. He noted, “There’s a lot more that has to be done.” Biden stressed the importance of distributing the vaccine in an equitable manner across the country, noting that Black and Hispani...
